Well, about 8 months ago I started on this, and almost a week ago I finished it.
Being the sort of person who keeps on coming up with ideas for cosplays regardless of the number of events held and the feasibility of creating the costume, I really wanted to do more Team Fortress cosplay, not just the Engineer. With the Spy as one of my favourites, I wanted to cosplay him the most.
It was quite simple in theory. Find a suit, a balaclava, some gloves, shoes and toy knife. Hey presto, go backstab people. But finding the right suit was impossible. I wanted a proper blue pinstripe suit, but the only one I could find (in a vintage clothes shop in Camden) was far too small.
Since my immense weight loss two years ago, I couldn't wear my old suit because it was about 8 sizes too big for me. My dad found an old suit that was still a little large on me, but was usable for formal events. Last week I ordered a balaclava to use, having decided that I'd just use my tie colour to denote team loyalty. When it arrived, I wanted to try the ensemble to see how it worked. Things snowballed, and I ended up with a complete costume.
Taking the photo was awful due to the ridiculous heat we get once day every year.
